Autumn Splendour

Here are some of the things I’m loving about the month of October in Ontario, Canada:

Cooler temperatures means sweater weather. I so enjoy wearing the fruits of my labours! Also, it’s more enjoyable to knit when it’s not 90 degrees outside.

Putting the finishing touches on a Fair Isle sweater vest in fall colours - steeking the armholes was scary!

And speaking of wearables - putting together fall fashion outfits is a welcome change from a long summer of trying to stay cool in the least amount of clothing you can decently get away with. It’s fun to try new combinations, layering, scarves, belts and hats.

Hand knit cardi (new) with jeans and a white shirt(both old). Jacket purchased in Paris a few years ago.

A little retail therapy, aka wardrobe refreshment, is hard to resist. But you can also shop your closet to discover oldies but goodies, perhaps worn in a new way.

On a more ethereal level, the light in October is spectacular, especially with the trees in their intense seasonal hues. We’ve had lots of brilliantly crisp sunny days this year.

I love Fall baking and cooking. Finally we can turn on the oven without worrying about heating up the house. Apples are in season and delicious baked in pies or crisps. Even though I’m not a fan of pumpkin pie, I’m itching to make a new Pumpkin Cardamom Crumb muffin recipe. Sounds good right?

Finally, I’m delighted to enjoy walking again without the stifling humidity of summer. There is no better way to appreciate the changing gardens and streetscapes. In fact, I’m off to grab my sunnies and head out the door for a walk right now. Care to join me?

Ciao Bella!
