A Match Made in Heaven

When the weather’s hot, one’s thoughts naturally stray to chilled treats. For a child, an ice cream cone or a frozen confection from the local ice cream truck is one of the joys of summer.

Best eaten in the shade on a hot summer’s day

But if you’re an adult, may I suggest something a bit more sophisticated? The affogato, from the Italian word for drowned, is an easy but delectable summer dessert.

All you need is a shot of espresso - decaf for me - and your favourite flavour of high quality ice cream - I use chocolate Häagen Dazs.

A fancy crystal coupe (I lucked into mine at the Sally Ann) is not necessary but adds to the sensory experience!

Simply scoop the ice cream into your serving dish and pour the freshly brewed espresso shot on top.

Paradiso!

Ciao Bella!
