One loop at a time Part III

Now that I am a seasoned knitter, (haha I still make lots of mistakes), I’m attempting new techniques and slightly more difficult patterns.

I’ve become pretty confident with German short rows to make the upper back of a sweater longer than the front, and the Italian bind-off is no longer daunting. I’ve also switched from English-style knitting to Norwegian, which I think is much faster and easier on the arms, although I’m still no speed knitter! Thank you to Arne & Carlos, whose amusing YouTube videos were so helpful to learn this method.

I do enjoy colour work and recently completed the Esther Sweater by Petite Knit, as well as a fair isle vest that is super warm and cosy. For the vest, I dared to combine two patterns, one for the motifs and the other for the construction: Flagship by Espace Tricot and Vest #7122 by Sirdar . I also had to learn a technique called steeking in which you cut the fabric in half in order to match the patterns - eek. Happily, it all worked out!

I improvised a bit with this vest.

Currently I’m working with an extremely fuzzy yarn (Ballerina Chunky Mohair from Sandnes Garn), which complicates matters, also the fact that I’m holding it with two other yarns (both Alpakka from the same company). But the result looks very pretty so far and I’m almost done the body - hurray (the Foundation Sweater from Lena Holme Sansøe.)

A melange of colours

Next up on my queue is the Perle Sweater, from the same designer above. I love the texture of this sweater and can’t wait to cast on. I’ll be knitting it with Sandnes Garn Poppy in the colour 2611 beige melange. I tend to follow the advice of the designer when it comes to choosing yarns because that way I’m fairly confident I will get gauge and the sweater will fit. A confession: I have never made a swatch - a big no no in the knitting world. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Crunchy texture of the Perle Sweater

Both of these projects are intended for my own closet. After they are completed, who knows, maybe something for my daughter or an item that takes less time like a vest or a summer tee. A friend suggested knitting a pouf! Not a bad idea - what do you think?

Ciao Bella!
