A French Fling

As a single woman, it’s not always easy to find a compatible travel companion. So this year I decided to take matters into my own hands and book a holiday all by myself. I’ve chosen a walking tour of southern France in late April.

My new backpack!

The tour company organizes all the day trips and transfers between hotels and flights and meals. Everything is included in the price, even tips and wine! I had previously done a very enjoyable bike tour with the same outfit, so was fairly confident that it would be a fun trip.

Part of the joy of traveling is the anticipation. I thought I’d share with you my preparations for this ten day expedition.

Our itinerary features daily walks of up to 12 kilometers. So proper footwear was the most important item on my list. Our instructions specified lugged soles. I attempted to order shoes online but no luck with the fit. At a local shop I tried on multiple options and finally settled on trail shoes that are super comfy (although a bit nerdy looking!).

Of course it doesn’t end with shoes! You also need specific hiking socks. Mine are in a merino wool blend from Smartwool. I did a test run, I mean walk, and so far so good!

While I do a lot of walking I do not own a proper backpack. I will need room for a lunch and perhaps a jacket. After a fair bit of research I found just what I was looking for. It is lightweight, yet has decent back support, outside pockets for water bottles and sturdy straps. The brand is Osprey and the model is the Daylite.

Ready for the trails

Luckily, for clothing I think I already have what I need in my wardrobe. I’m planning on prioritizing comfort! I’ll be packing easy drawstring-waist pants from Athleta and Lululemon along with moisture wicking t-shirts. A light hooded weather resistant jacket from Arc’teryx for cooler days, jeans of course, and maybe a simple dress or skirt for dinners.

Lots of t-shirt options😎

I’ll definitely be taking my new knitting project in my carry-on as I find knitting so relaxing and I’m not the best flyer. It is a sleeveless top for summer in a linen blend yarn, the Sabai top by Susanne Müller. Simple and lightweight it is ideal for a travel project.

Meanwhile, the excitement is building! YOLO, right?

Ciao Bella!
