Hello! I’m Jane.
This blog is about the little daily things that keep me active and inspired in my seventies. I definitely take each day as it comes and try to live in the moment.
Welcome, would you like a cup of tea and a cookie?
A Balancing Act
Like the majority of the population I definitely like to eat. Some of you have wondered how I can possibly consume breads, sweet treats and bountiful lunches and still maintain a pretty consistent weight.
March Winds
T.S. Eliot claimed that April was the cruellest month but in my book the month of March, in Toronto at least, is by far the most dastardly.
Favourite Things Part II Toronto
There’s lots to love about my home town, Toronto. Besides being a relatively safe, clean metropolis, with lots of parks and trees, the city offers many special treats for residents and visitors. Here are some of my favourites:
A French Fling
As a single woman, it’s not always easy to find a compatible travel companion. So this year I decided to take matters into my own hands and book a holiday all by myself.
Vicarious Thrills - Indulging my Reading Habit
No matter how much time I have, my list of books to read never seems to diminish.
One loop at a time Part III
Now that I am a seasoned knitter, (haha I still make lots of mistakes), I’m attempting new techniques and slightly more difficult patterns.
How to have a happy life
As a woman of a certain age, I’m often asked on Tik Tok and Instagram what advice I would give to young people.
One loop at a time Part II
Little by little my confidence as a knitter improved. I discovered that I preferred top down construction techniques, smaller gauge yarns and needles and the joys of holding more than one strand of yarn at a time.
One loop at a time Part I
Knitting has become a bit of an obsession for me and there seems to be a lot of interest in the results of my little hobby. So stay tuned for a round-up of how I got started, and completed projects, both for myself and my family.
Family Fun Times (aka dinner at Nana’s)
Most every week the family congregates at my place for an early, kid-friendly dinner. Everyone gets along and the young cousins play amid echoes from the adults of “shaaare.” It’s a lot of fun and the food is good too!
My kitchen must-haves
We all know that the kitchen is the heart of the home. Mine is especially so because it is actually part of the living/dining room and the first room you see when you come up the stairs from the front entry area.
The City by the Bay
Since my son who lives in San Francisco had no plans to come to Toronto for Christmas, I decided to pay him and his lovely wife a visit instead.
Scottish Oat Scones
On a dark November day these Scottish Oat Scones are like an old friend - familiar, comforting, and easy.
Autumn Splendour
Here are some of the things I’m loving about the month of October in Ontario, Canada:
Butterscotch Peaches
What do you do if you have a bowlful of ripe farmers’ market peaches? For an over-the-top solution to this not so terrible problem I suggest this recipe for Butterscotch Peaches by Celia Barbour at the New York Times Cooking app.
Memories of Paris
With Paris in the spotlight now as host of the summer Olympics, I can’t help but recall trips I have made and enjoyed to that very special city.
Salad with Carrot-Ginger Dressing
Our recent lunch salad is a mash-up of two recipes from the New York Times that we found to be tasty and refreshing.
Lunch for a Sweltering Summer Day
When it was too hot to turn on the oven we came up with a menu that was simple and simply delicious.
